Night falls, the sky is dark. In the streets of a Quebec village, the Bonhomme Sept-Heures walks and hides himself … He waits, with a frightening look, for the children who have not gone home and who have disobeyed their parents.
Elsewhere, there is the group Bonhomme Setter… Since 1998, they have travelled Quebec’s roads, without ever having frightened young or old.
Born of the meeting of Anglophone and Francophone musicians from the Maritimes, the Lower St. Lawrence and Quebec City, Bonhomme Setter owes its name to a fusion of two legends which are deeply engrained in local folklore. The first part of its name comes from the traditional Francophone story, while the latter part belongs to English-Canadian lore.
When the group was created, the founding members sought an original name which highlighted the importance of tradition, both in music, the arts and in life in general. What’s more, the passion of the flute player for anthropology and the history of the people amplified this desire.
Over the years, the interest of the group for Quebec traditional music has been diluted by an increased interest in many of the world’s folklores, such as those from Ireland, Scotland, Britanny, Asturia, Latin America, the Arab world, and more.
